New and Hot for Summer: Coral Love!

There’s no question that our jewellery style changes throughout the seasons. In the winter, laden with layers, scarves and bulk, jewellery simply has less space. But in the summer, your jewellery can take center stage! For me, the summer is all about bright colours and bold, fun pieces to punch up the breezy warm-weather clothing. Nothing does that better than coral! And according to colour experts Pantone, who dubbed “Tangerine Tango” their 2012 Colour of the Year, you’ll be right on trend!

In jewellery, coral is usually set in gold, creating an overall warm, luxurious look. With such a bright, saturated hue, it’s usually a good idea to keep the rest of the outfit neutral: khakis, whites, browns, or even navy blue (coral will work well with summer’s ever-popular nautical look).

But if you’re feeling daring, coral pairs wonderfully with a teal or turquoise blue. It may sound crazy, but it’s true! Coral and teal are complementary colours, meaning they are exact opposites on the colour wheel. Pairing complementary colours enhances each colour and is pleasing to the eye. Delving into a bit of colour theory is a great way to create a unique look that works (you know that annoying style mantra–it doesn’t have to match, it just has to “go”–knowing your colours can help you achieve style harmony!).
